Are they 80 years old or perhaps even 150 years old?! Learn how to identify your old photos. You will learn the basics of dating photos by photo type, clothing styles, hair styles and many other clues. Come rediscover your family! Bring some of your photos to class.

Research Your Family History

Ever wonder if you have a famous ancestor in your family tree? This two-hour course will help you learn what you need to get started researching your family history. Learn what to do first, the correct way to record information and discover the myriad of resources available. This course will give an overview of the most effective steps to follow in family history research and will discuss census records, vital records, immigration records and online databases.

Genealogy: Case Study

Do you have an ancestor that is giving you research trouble? Then this class is for you. During the 3 classes we will focus on one of your ancestors and learn techniques for overcoming research obstacles. Learn how to analyze the research you have already collected and make use of techniques such as timelines. Basic familiarity with genealogy is a pre-requisite.

Researching the History of Your House

You can research the history of your house whether it is 20 years old or 150 years old. Marian Pierre-Louis will introduce where to find the deeds to your house, how to chain a deed, and locating other sources of information such as the US Federal Census records. Come learn some tricks to get the most out of your house history research. This talk is appropriate for both beginners and those who have some research experience.

Internet Genealogy 101

Learn how to use the internet to research your family history. Each week we will use a different internet resource. Bring as much family information as you already have (names, dates, locations) on your parents and grandparents to the first class. Appropriate for both beginner and intermediate researchers.
